Started with an idea between 3 friends in 2014, we held our first event in 2015. We had seven competitors and almost 15 supporters, and there were no prizes or shirts.
Formed in the Southeastern Part of Ohio, We knew our goal of raising money for Veterans was important to our supporters. Still an unofficial event, then called the "Southeast Ohio Shootout", or SOS, we picked the Fisher House to contribute. Their incredible ratio to turn our donations into real help made the decision an easy one.
In 2017, our first sponsors came on board, and allowed us to create the Rare White Shirts seen above. This year, we hosted a room clearing event, with two separate passes of rifle and pistol. Now Nearing 20 competitors of all walks of life, the competition was fierce, with less than two points between first and second. We were beginning to find our stride, and collectively raised almost $2,000 this year for Fisher House. We knew that as our goals went higher, we would have to push harder for support and safety.
One of our Crowd favorites, this shoot utilized an elimination style scoring, which led to 4 competitors shooting at 1 inch circles at 300 yards. Each stage had a full deck of playing cards, face down, with these stickers on them. Competitors would then call a number and letter as their chosen target.
This led to 5 shots, being taken at 100, 200, and 300 yards by each competitor that qualified. The competition was very tight among our final 4. This year also marked our first Year that we had NRA Range Safety Officers on site to help us conduct the event.
Accuracy, acquisition, handling, and speed were all test
A time based scoring system kept everybody in the game, with all competitors performing all stations.
We learned here that a Biennial Shoot was too far apart for you patrons, and yearly shoots became the goal!
Safety Training to include Range Safety Officers, Chief Range Safety Officers, Instructors, and Range Development courses were on the Horizon.
Testing the ability of our competitors to load, reload, and engage multitudes of targets with Shot and Slugs.
Formal Range Briefs, Multiple Safety Officers Per station, and an eye for details made this our most official shoot yet!
12 Gauge, 20 Gauge, and 16 Gauge of all types, ages, and size made an appearance
With an eye for safety, we allowed an age range for the whole family
